What's in a Peanut Free Pantry?
What is in a Peanut Free Pantry?
A lot! Thanks to Sprouts and Earthfare grocery stores. Without them, we may be lost on where to start.
In todays society, it's obvious that food allergies are the pits. It is life threatening and SUPER scary. Birthday parties are stressful, eating out is limited, and there is the panic deep down inside to ALWAYS remember the EPI Pens. Stinks, doesn't it?
But there are some positive outcomes that have changed our lives for the better. Now don't get me wrong. I pray every day that it goes away. But for now, it is here, and so we need to find the good.
WHAT'S THE POSITIVE?
For starters, we read ALL labels. Have you read the nutrition labels on your products? Half of the time I have no idea what is listed. So now, if I cannot pronounce it, then it goes back on the shelf. We look for ingredients that we can understand.
Also, Baked goods are out. They are just out of question. Grey is 2 and how will he know at someone else's home if it came from a peanut free bakery? He wont. So we just don't eat it. And I am certain that the cutting down on processed baked goods has made me a better mom and has made Grey a less cranky toddler.
Another plus? There are SO many delicious options out there that I would have never explored.
I wanted to post this to give anyone new snack ideas. I would have never found some favorites if I didn't have to look at labels the way I do. So here's to finding new treats for your preschooler!
These are just a few of the products that Grey or I will go to when we need a snack. For a list of our favorites, click here.
Again, food allergies are terrible and incredibly scary. But for now, it is our life and I know it may be yours as well. My intention is to provide you hope and some insight on how it has changed out eating habits for the better.
