Invitation to Explore Primary Colors
Get Ready, DWG followers! I have two incredible primary color discovery activities coming your way this week.
Invitations to play can be silent set-ups that naturally engage a preschooler to play.
This particular preschool activity explores the mixing of primary colors.
I also added white for my preschooler to explore as he mixed new colors.
Which Concepts Will Your Preschooler Explore?
- transformation of color
- motion of water
- sound of water from one container to another
- cause and effect
- fine motor hand strength
Children will be asked to ask and answer questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify something that is not understood. - This exploration is a prefect way to generate predictions, hypothesis, and conclusions.
Begin by adding a drop of paint to each glass container that is filled with water. Remember glass can break. You may want to use these plastic containers listed below in the supply list.

I created this activity before I learned about the Jumbo Eyedroppers listed above. They look fabulous and are now in my Amazon cart for the next exploration.
For this preschool exploration, I used Medicine Droppers. Now, here me out on why:
- I already owned far too many of them
- I cleaned them out
- The structure is great for small muscle development
- They were going to be thrown out anyway - I reused them before tossing
PLEASE DO NOT USE THE MEDICINE DROPPERS FOR ORAL USE AFTER ADDING PAINT. THROW THEM OUT. WATCH TO MAKE SURE YOUR PRESCHOOLER DOES NOT PUT THE DROPPERS IN THIER MOUTH. PAINT IS TOXIC. BE SMART AND USE YOUR DISCRETION. AGAIN, THESE WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE TRASH.
Step Aside and Let The Preschool Exploration Begin:
Allow This Activity to Organically Progress. Remember, it is an exploration.
Busy Toddler has an amazing variation to this activity.
