Retell Room On The Broom

Retell Room On The Broom

Inside: Retell Room on the Broom with this fun preschool book activity

Room on the Broom.

Have you read this adorable Halloween tale?!

Not only does this story get better with every read (I credit this to the rhythm and rhyming throughout the story), but it is a fun storyline of how to be kind, compassionate and helpful.

This month Lu from The Mamas Workshop and I were able to collaborate with THREE other creative bloggers.

This means you have FIVE different ways you can incorporate a story retell for perhaps the most FUN AND FANTASTIC book we've ever read.

What is a Book Box?

A book box is a way to help your preschooler retell a familiar story. It has supplies that can act as props for story retells.

What is IN a Book Box?

  • Familiar book

  • Props to retell the story

WHY Use a Book Box?

By Kindergarten, children will be asked to:

  • With prompting and support, retell familiar stories, including key details.

  • With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text.

  • With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story.

Master now?

No, thank you.

Expose now?

Yes, please!

Build up your preschoolers confidence for when they have to meet these rigorous standards.

1. Read, Room on the Broom several times.

2. Decorate several craft sticks to represent each character.

3. Cut slits into your paper roll for characters to sit in.

4. Reread the story using your character props!

As you and your preschooler reread the story, begin to place each character back onto the broom. This will also help your preschooler begin to understand story sequence.
